NBA 2K League set for tipoff May 19

The fourth-year esports league announced its schedule along with alignment into divisions and more just weeks before tipoff.

For the first time in its young four-year existence, the NBA 2K League will align into conferences, creating two divisions based upon geographical locations.

The league announced the news as it revealed this year’s regular season schedule and competition structure.

Each of the 23 teams will play 28 regular season games, with the season starting with The Tipoff tournament on May 19. The NBA 2K League finals will be held Sept. 4.

The two conferences are as follows:

  • Eastern Conference
    • 76ers GC, Celtics Crossover Gaming, Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai, Grizz Gaming, Hawks Talon GC, Heat Check Gaming, Hornets Venom GT, Knicks Gaming, Magic Gaming, Nets GC, Raptors Uprising GC and Wizards District Gaming
  • Western Conference
    • Bucks Gaming, Blazer5 Gaming, Cavs Legion GC, Jazz Gaming, Kings Guard Gaming, Lakers Gaming, Mavs Gaming, Pacers Gaming, Pistons GT, T-Wolves Gaming and Warriors Gaming Squad

On Aug. 26, the playoffs will begin for 12 teams, which represents an expansion of the number of postseason teams.

Teams will start with remote play in their local markets with games being broadcast on the league’s Twitch and YouTube channels.

“After a transformational 2020 season, we are thrilled to bring NBA 2K League action back to fans worldwide in Season 4,” said NBA 2K League President Brendan Donohue in a press release. “We’re working toward returning to our live studio experience once we safely can be together, and all fans rooting for their teams around the globe will surely enjoy the rivalries that will develop with the introduction of conferences.”

The season will include three in-season tournaments and the top five teams in each conference will qualify for the postseason. A sixth team from each conference will have a chance to earn a playoff bid in the season-ending tournament, known as The Ticket.
