Netflix has partnered with League of Legends developer Riot Games to bring an animated series based upon Riot’s League of Legends franchise to the popular streaming service.
The Arcane series will launch in the fall and revolve around the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun. It will follow the experiences of two of the league champions.
Netflix’ director of original animation Dominique Bazay said the series “promises to be a visual spectacular thrill ride that will have viewers on the edge of their seats.”
While that’s a nice publicity line, it’s also a reason the popular League of Legends series has maintained its status over the years.
Riot Games’ global president of entertainment Shauna Spenley promised a “love letter to our players and fans, who have been asking us for more cinematic experiences that dive deeper into the worlds and champions in League of Legends.”
Netflix has been a leader in video game-related productions, with season two of The Witcher set for release this fall and the final fourth season of the Castlevania series set for launch this summer.
