The players in the ongoing 2021 NHL Gaming World Championship will receive official HyperX headsets after the NHL partnered with the hardware maker.
The league announced the partnership this week, with HyperX expected to provide its headsets to broadcasters as well as the competitors.
The tournament’s games can be seen on the league’s Twitch channel.
The 2021 NHL Gaming World Championship is in its fourth year and features the best EA SPORTS NHL 21 players in Europe and North America.
The tournament, which features a $100,000 prize pool, runs through July 24.
“As the lines continue to blur between esports and traditional sports, as seen with the NHL Gaming World Championship, we’re seeing a rise in powerful forms of entertainment that unite gamers and sports fans alike,” said Daniel Kelley, vice president of marketing, HyperX, in a press release. “As players compete on the virtual ice to be named champion, hearing every detail and communicating effectivity is crucial.”
Like most sports, the NHL has been pushing to incorporate more esports-related programming, having held an NHL player tournament during the league’s pandemic-induced pause last year.
