Sony to sell space-y controllers next month

Midnight Black and Cosmic Red versions of the PS5 controller will be available in June.

The excitement of a new console always brings with it the excitement of new peripherals. At least for now, the PlayStation 5 will bank on exciting new looks for its controllers.

The video game giant this week announced that two new styles of their PlayStation 5 Dualsense controller will be released next month.

The Midnight Black and Cosmic Red units will be available to ship on June 11, with PlayStation Plus members able to schedule delivery for that morning.

The Midnight Black version has the same $69.99 price tag as the original Dualsense controller.

If you want it in Cosmic Red, however, you’ll have to fork over $74.99 (both prices do not include tax or delivery fees).

The descriptions from Sony: “Midnight Black features two subtly different shades of black with light grey detailing to reflect how we view space through the night sky, and Cosmic Red offers a striking black and red design inspired by the unique vivid shades of red found throughout the cosmos.”

The new styles are little more than cosmetic changes to the original Dualsense models.

But controllers are starting to play a bigger role in both the video games being released and Sony’s promotion of them.

The new space game Returnal uses its haptic feedback, for instance, to enhance the experience of running through a rain shower.

Ratchet & Clank’s upcoming title will use that same feedback to give players a physical sensation whenever their heroes grab bolts.
