The popular musician Katy Perry on Friday released a video that featured someone who might be familiar to video game fans.
In her new music video for her song “Electric,” a present-day Katy Perry is shown hanging out with the Pokemon Pikachu as she goes back in time to help her former self – who also happens to be shadowed by Pichu.
It’s a sweet song about pushing for your dreams while also having someone there to encourage you.
The video is part of the yearlong celebration of Pokemon’s 25th anniversary.
Perry said in a press release that she visited a Pokemon Cafe while touring in Japan.
“I got so nostalgic,” she said. “It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated.”
Perry added that the song’s themes of resilience and “igniting your inner light” have driven her career.
The inclusion of Pichu and her younger version represents the evolution of both herself and the character.
“We both evolve yet retain a sense of playfulness,” she said in the release.
According to the press release, Perry played the Pokemon games on her Game Boy.
The song will be a part of “Pokemon 25: The Album,” which is set to release this fall by Universal Music Group’s Capital Records.
