The NBA 2K League’s opening weekend screeched to a halt on Thursday as “technical difficulties” forced the league to suspend play for a day.
Shortly before the second day of its “The TIPOFF” tournament, a message posted on the league’s social media pages notified people of the delay.
“Due to technical difficulties related to the servers, tonight’s tipoff games will be postponed,” the message read. “The remainder of the tipoff will be shifted to (today through Monday).”
Followers were instructed to stay tuned to the league’s social media channels for further updates. None had been posted as of 12:30 p.m. Friday.
The hiccup comes after an exciting first day of play that saw a standings tiebreaker determine Group 4 results and no teams go through its four games unbeaten.
The 30-point differential put up by 76ers GC outpaced Magic Gaming’s 16-point difference. Each of the teams finished pool play 3-1.
In other divisions, Twolves Gaming, Heat Check Gaming and Wizards District Gaming finished as the lone 3-1 teams in their brackets, pushing them forth to the elimination round, which will now start Saturday.
After a season that saw the coronavirus disrupt its operations, forcing all teams to scramble a plan together to keep playing from home, league officials wanted this season to be a sort of re-emergence and rebirth.
But the second-day server issues will likely be seen as an early test to overcome.
Eleven of the league’s 23 teams will participate in Friday’s tournament games hoping to be the teams that round out elimination round participants.
